Guatemala

Although Guatemala is considered a middle income country, it also suffers from extreme income inequality, as only 20% of the population is responsible for about 50% of the total consumption. In fact, it is estimated that 60% of the country’s people are living below the poverty line. The lowest 20% of the population have 2.9% of the income and expenditure. The serious poverty faced by many Guatemalans has long reaching effects, such as lack of education, malnutrition, and lack of basic healthcare.
